10 Ways to Make Money from Pinterest

Pinterest is a great way to make passive income, but it requires that you put some thought and effort into it before the money starts to roll in. The site is exploding at the moment, driving more traffic than Google+, You Tube and LinkedIn combined. Here are some effective ways to make money with Pinterest:

1. Photograph beautifully:
First and foremost, Pinterest is a highly visual site. If you have beautifully photographed items, then those are the ones that will get the most attention from users. If you aren’t seeing much traffic to your Pinterest site, then this is probably the number one reason why they aren’t sticking around to read your product descriptions.

Remember to keep it eye catching, much more so than you do on any other social media site. This is what Pinterest is known for.
2. Be social:
You can’t just pin something and them leave with a hope that someone will click on the pin. You have to build a community through other social sites like Twitter and Facebook. And it goes without saying that you have to create and keep a community on your own site.
Pinterest isn’t too keen on users who use the site for self promotion. If you’ve built up a loyal base from other sites, then you can and should encourage them to promote your products by pinning your items on their boards.
3. Use the right URL shortener:
Tiny URL will bring in more traffic than other URL shortener. You click through rate will thank you.
4. Use Amazon Affiliates:
Pinterest is virtually custom made for Amazon Affiliates. You can pin a product with your Amazon Affiliates link, and increase traffic to your affiliate site.
[Note from Garish : Pinterest is stripping the "?tag={YourAffiliateID}" out of the amazon affiliate links before passing the links on to Amazon.  So, posting your default amazon affiliate links wouldn't help you anymore. However, integrating the affiliate code in the Amazon URL, in this format : "http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0470651733/{YourAffiliateID}/"  without the quotes, will still result in a trackable link to Amazon.]
5. Pin inexpensive items
This is especially true for Amazon affiliates links. People who are successfully selling on Pinterest report that the least expensive items on their Pinterest page produce the most sales. That’s not to say that you can’t have more expensive items on your Pinterest page, but realize that the less expensive items will produce the most sales.
6. Maximize product descriptions:
You only have 500 characters to describe your product—no more, no less. Use that space to tell people the psychological benefits of your product. And share your experience with the product or use a testimonial from a satisfied customer to show people why they should click back to your site and buy it. This method uses Pinterest as a micro- landing site for your products.
7. Find your niche:
One insider’s tip is to use MicroNicheFinder to find a profitable niche for selling items. Even if you already have a niche and plenty of products for that niche, it’s a good tool for refining or finding new ones.
8. Create Groupon deals:
There’s a lot of anecdotal evidence that people are making more and more purchases based on the images they see on Pinterest. You can link your Groupon feed and give them a visual enticement to use a Groupon offer from your site.
9. Pin-to-win:
You can create a “Pin to Win” contest to build your customer base and get some great buzz about new products. As Pinterest marketing becomes more sophisticated, these contest are becoming all the rage. They also reward loyal followers. You can ask users to create a “My Favorite Products” board and them start pinning items from your board in order to be come eligible.
10. Don’t forget Adsense:
Use hi-res photos and compose a strong call to action. Encourage users to follow your Adsense site.
Remember: Pinterest is a visual based tool for driving traffic back to your main site. Treat it as such, and you’ll find that the amount of new traffic coming to your site will pay off handsomely.
